Tragedy struck a Johor-area family yesterday afternoon, when a 5-year-old girl was run over by the same school van that had just dropped her off at her grandmother’s house on Jalan Temenggung 4.
Janiss Yeoh Zi Xuan, a kindergarten student, was crossing in front of the bus to get to her grandmother’s house at approximately noon when the van ran her over.
A 48-year-old driver was behind the wheel, when she suddenly accelerated and struck the child. Realizing what she had done, she ran out of the vehicle to alert Janiss’s grandmother, who opened the gate and ran to the scene. The driver then reversed the van over the young girl, as she was still pinned underneath.

Janiss was rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA); however, she succumbed to her injuries that same afternoon.
The driver was detained, and has since been released on bail.
