Two nights ago, CCTV footage of an Indonesian woman being shoved into a car by five men went viral on Facebook. Many worried that the woman had been abducted from in front of the upmarket Regalia Residence, on Jalan Sultan Ismail. The public shared the video 30,000 times and over 1.2 million Facebook users watched the video, fearing that the worst had happened to the slight figure in the video.

Well, as they say, the truth is always stranger than fiction.

As it turns out, the 23-year old “victim,” who tried to make a run for it before being recaptured, was actually being “arrested” by her former employers for theft. They were trying to haul her into the vehicle to drive her to the police station, and make a formal charge, before she had the chance to disappear.

She is accused of stealing, and currently sits at Gombak police headquarters, under investigation as per Section 381 of the Penal Code for theft.

One question: who are these kepoh (nosy) people who record CCTV videos and post them to FB like they’re doing a public service? Aiyah. Either call the police, or security, but don’t just think you’re doing a “duty” by posting it social media.
