The Chinese tourist recently abducted from the Singamata Reef Resort near Semporna has been in constant contact with her family in Shanghai.
Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) director-general Datuk Mohamad Mantek said data from intelligence agencies showed that Gao Hua Yuan, 29, has been making phone calls to her family in Shanghai almost daily.
On April 2, Gao and Filipino hotel worker Marcy Darawan were kidnapped from the Singamata Reef Resort by a group of gunmen who stormed the resort on boats.
Mohamad told The Star Online that both women were reported to be in good health.
He also said an Esscom team had been sent to the southern Philippines island of Jolo to coordinate an exit plan for the two captives with their Filipino counterparts.
“From what we gather, Philippines security personnel are closing in on the area where the two women are being held.
“They are working out ways to secure the women’s freedom without injuring them,” he added.
The Filipino gunmen who abducted them are believed to have taken them to Jolo via the Tawi Tawi chain of islands.
