Khir Toyo’s corruption case appeal set for August 28

While everyone is checking to see what the future holds for current Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid’s career, another man who used to hold that office is fighting to stay out of jail.

Former Selangor MB Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo is set to appear at the Federal Court on August 28 to file an appeal against his conviction for corruption, and the 12-month jail term to which he was sentenced.

On December 23 2011, the Shah Alam High Court found Khir guilty of purchasing for himself and his wife, two plots of land a bungalow at Section 7 Shah Alam, at prices well below market listings.

Apart from his 12-month imprisonment, the former Sungai Panjang assemblyman of UMNO was also ordered to forfeit ownership of the propersties and hand them over to the government.

The Court of Appeal dismissed his first appeal on May 30 last year.

On April 15 this year, Khir’s appeal hearing at the Federal Court was postponed as his coulsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, was not in the country.
