Khairy Jamaluddin doesn’t think a Najib-Dr M debate needs to happen

UMNO Youth Chief and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin says a debate between Prime Minister Najib Razak and his predecessor, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, would be pointless as Malaysia’s current PM had already addressed Mahathir’s allegations against him on Najib’s official blog

Touching on Mahathir’s most pointed questions on troubled sovereign development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Khairy urged all parties, the former PM included, to wait for the release of findings by the National Audit Department on the matter.

“There is no need for a debate. I feel the prime minister has already given his answers.

“As for the 1MDB issue, we (Umno Youth) are also waiting for the outcome of the audit.

“So lets just wait until they are done with it,” he said today, as quoted by The Malaysian Insider‘s Jamilah Kamarudin.

On Saturday, Dr Mahathir claimed that he was open to perticipating in an open debate with Najib on questions pertaining to 1MDB, as shown in the KiniTV clip below:

Yesterday, Najib updated the FAQ section of his official blog to address 13 allegations levelled against him, ranging from 1MDB’s financial troubles, to claims that the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) cash assistance programme is a form of institutionalised bribery, to the 2006 murder case of Mongolian model/translator Altantuya Shariibuu.

“I view this as a proactive measure taken by the prime minister, by giving written replies on issues raised by various parties in the past,” Khairy said.

“I wish those who had asked the questions will be satisfied.

“How many times does the PM need to answer the same question, for example, the official jet and murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu? I feel the PM has given a clear answer.”
