Kelantan’s vaunted Red Warriors are in for a bit of lightening up, if the football team’s potential sponsor Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd has its way – the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Baru will be repainted pink as part of the Kelantan Football Association’s (KAFA) deal for a reported RM20 million sponsorship.
The Kelantan Stadium Board (PSK) has approved the new colour scheme for the state stadium, as well as the construction of walkways and seating sections exclusively for female fans.
“The PSK has consented to several modifications to be made to the venue; now the owner of Vida Beauty Sdb Bhd will have to submit a sponsorship application through the proper channels,” Kelantan Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Exco Abdul Fattah Mahmood told mStar.
KAFA president Annuar Musa also announced yesterday that he had no objections to having the Kelantan football team change its name from The Red Warriors to Pamoga Qu Puteh The Red Warriors, as per the conditions laid out by Vida Beauty.
“We will submit an application letter to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on the matter so that stadium announcers, television and radio stations, and the media can be alerted to the name change,” he said.
“It will still be Kelantan FC. the only change will be to the unofficial nickname.”
Vida Beauty owner Dr Hasmiza Othman, popularly known as Datuk Vida, is also KAFA’s honorary adviser.
Last year she and her company made waves by committing RM3 million to have Vida Beauty sponsor TV3’s Anugerah Juara Lagu live telecast.
It seems Datuk Vida hopes to expand Vida’s brand recognition even further by pledging a reported RM20 million to the east coast football team, complete with a set of 33 conditions that would bring the Kelantanese football team more in line with Vida’s corporate identity – including a pink football stadium.
