Kelantan state government officials announced that they will be holding a Sharia-compliant body-building competition in the state in October.

Dubbed the Mr. Awang Selamat Kelantan 2018 Challenge, State Youth, Sports and NGO Committee chairman, Was Roslan Wan Hamat explained that the 50 confirmed contestants will be covered from navel to knees.

Last year, one Kelantan man found himself undergoing counseling, after he was found to be sporting shorts that offended religious officers while trying to get a burger in that state capital, Kota Baru.

Kelantan’s Islamic dressing laws extend widely to its Muslim population, regulating what men and women wear in public, and enforcing that women who work in public places, including food service, wear a headscarf.

Held in the Perka Jubilee Hall, it will take place on October 13. Prizes include cash, a kris (a dagger) and trophy.
