JPJ issues 420 summons to errant motorcyclists

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued a total of 420 summonses to errant motorcyclists during a four-hour operation on Monday.

Kuala Lumpur RTD director Datuk Md Ziki A Rahman told The New Straits Times that the operation, which was carried out with other agencies, specifically targeted motorcyclists as they usually top the list of those involved in accidents during the festive season.

“In the operation, a total of 379 summonses were issued for various offences.

“The highest number of offences recorded were for not having valid driving licenses and road tax,” he was quoted as saying.

Md Ziki added that 24 vehicles – 20 motorcycles, three vans including a cloned car and a lorry – were also seized during the operation.

In addition to that, a total of 15 notices were issued under Section 61(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for owners to bring in their vehicles for further inspection, Md Ziki told the daily.

The other enforcement agencies that took part in the joint-operation include the National Anti-Drug Agency, Puspakom, Land Public Transport Commission, Department of Environment and Tourism Department.
