Johor’s crown prince asks police to not arrest his critics

Johor’s Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim does not want his critics arrested.

In a posting on Facebook last night, the 32-year-old crown prince — against whom a man had allegedly made remarks deemed seditious in nature and subsequently arrested — said he would rather meet them personally, instead.

“I would humbly share my opinion with the police not to arrest anyone making seditious remarks about me.”

I would prefer it if the authorities can organise a meeting for me to meet with these people and give them the privilege of saying what they want to say to my face, man to man,” he said in lengthy post made early Monday.

“I can honestly say that I really don’t care about what people may say about me, as I am truly thankful with what God has given me in my life.” he said.

On Saturday, police picked up a 23-year-old assistant chef at Taman Intan in Dengkil, Selangor for allegedly posting statements on social media that insulted the outspoken Tunku Ismail.

Prior to the arrest, a 29-year-old Pahang football fan was arrested for tweeting a ‘degrading message’ using the Twitter handle @thekeluangman, Free Malaysia Today reports.

Both cases are being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or not more than a year in jail, or both, upon conviction.
