Johor businessman shot outside friend’s home in Kuantan, police suspect gang-related violence

A Johor business mine was shot in front of a residential area in Kuantan as he was dropping a friend home in the early hours of this morning.

Police have no released the victim’s name, but have said that the incident occurred outside of a home on Jalan Air Putih, between 1:30 and 2am, on Tuesday.

The victim, along with his 47-year-old friend, were returning home after visiting an entertainment center in the east coast city of Kuantan. Riding in a Toyota Estima, the friend had exited the passenger-side of the vehicle when shots were fired from outside the car. He said that the victim was hit, but managed to drive off momentarily. He fled inside his home.

However, the victim only managed to drive a little further, and was found by members of the public in front of a nearby pharmacy, slumped against the steering wheel of his car. Taken to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His friend has since been placed under police arrest while investigations into his death are being carried out, with police suspecting gang violence causing the death.
