The Sultan Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru reportedly caught fire again, just a day after a deadly blaze claimed the lives of six patients.
According to a report by Channel News Asia, the incident happened at around 1.40pm on Wednesday.
Johor Fire and Rescue Department Director Othman Abdullah confirmed in a tweet that “sparks” reportedly occured at the operation theatre in the hospital’s emergency and trauma ward, just a floor below the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which caught fire on Tuesday.
According to Othman, the “sparks” were a result of the water, which was used to clean the area, coming into contact with an electric plug.
The Star Online reported that a hospital volunteer reportedly saw smoke coming out of the operation room located in the first floor of the hospital.
As a result, hospital staff as well as patients were asked to evacuate the area.
Thankfully, no one was injured this time as it was reportedly a small fire and firemen managed to put it under control before it spreads.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said in a statement cited by Channel News Asia that its officers are thoroughly inspecting the hospital’s electrical system.
“We will only use the (West) block when it is certified safe,” Health Minister S. Subramaniam said in the statement.
On Tuesday, six patients – four women and two men – were killed when a fire broke out in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Firemen managed to save a seventh patient, but the patient suffered major burns.
