Ah the golden years – where you can enjoy lazy afternoons sitting around a kopitiam with your fellow seniors, talking about life as it was, as it is, and wondering why your kids don’t call you enough.

However, for one 61-year-old Penang man, this time has been marred by the kind of drama one might expect from someone of a more rambunctious age, after police arrested him for purportedly stabbing his younger girlfriend and her son at their flat in Air Itam.

Police believe that the mother and the suspect entered into an initial quarrel, with the woman’s 21-year-old son entering into the struggle to defend his mother, in the early Sunday morning incident.

The cause of the quarrel had to do with the woman arriving home at 1:30am, and the fact that this upset the suspect. The son tried to calm the situation, but got caught in the cross-fire.

A distress call was made at 2:45am, and on-duty officers arrived to find both the 55-year-old woman and her young son lying in a pool of blood. Both are now receiving treatment at Penang Hospital, along with the suspect who sustained injuries himself.

Police are now waiting to question the individuals involved to ascertain the exact cause of the altercation.
