JB couple arrested for cheating in house auction

A married couple in Johor Bahru was arrested after several victims reported that they were cheated via a property auction involving losses ammounting up to RM400,000.

JB’s State Commercial CID chief Asst Comm Mah Khye Beng said the 36-year-old wife was arrested on April 27 while her 34-year-old husband was detained two days later in Paloh, Kluang.

According to Mah, their modus operandi was to convince the victims to invest in a non-existing house, promising high returns as well as their invested capital. The couple would then coax their victims into handing over money to them through their company, Takzim Properties, which has an office in JB.

A majority of their victims are from Johor, where there are currently six investigation papers opened against them, and at least one other state, where there are three papers on them.

Mah added that the couple, believed to be active since the end of 2015, is being invistigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
