Remember those sinkholes that caused havoc in the heart of Kuala Lumpur recently?
Yes, the area above the Jalan Imbi-Jalan Pudu intersection that caved in on July 2 (inspiring hit memes featuring Ultraman, Godzilla, King Kong, Optimus Prime and…a ..umm…chicken?).
The Rakyat Post reports that the Jalan Hang Tuah to Jalan Imbi route has been reopened after its closure due to the sinkholes.
This is the first stretch to be reopened. KL Mayor Ahmad Phesal Talib said other routes would be reopened by Oct 31.
He told the media yesterday that higher grade concrete is being used now to ensure there is no repeat of the incident. The actual cause of the collapse has yet to be determined as Ahmad Phesal is still awaiting a ‘detailed report’ on the incident, TRP reported.
Ahmad Phesal was quoted as saying that Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Gas Malaysia and Prasarana had borne the cost of repair work contributing RM1.5million, RM110,000 and RM1 million respectively.
In the incident, a section of the 35-metre tunnel that was being constructed to build a four-lane underpass collapsed, creating a sinkhole as a deep as five metres.
The underpass is expected to be completed by Dec 10.
