Jais Withholds Confiscated BM Bibles, Quizzes Bible Society Officials

The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has not returned the 300 Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Iban bibles it seized from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) offices last week.

BSM President Lee Min Choon and office manager Sinclair Wong gave their statements to the religious authority at its office in Shah Alam this morning. Both Lee and Wong were arrested during the raid, but were released on bail the same day.

Lee said, “They asked us some questions to try to understand about the bible society and how we operate.

“They were curious to know why the Malay bibles existed, so we explained to them,” he told the press.

Lee was not informed whether the bibles would be returned to the organization.

“I think the people we’ve met were not decision makers. They were tasked with recording statements from us,” he said.
