It’s going to be a lot harder to get a music festival permit

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has announced there would be stricter conditions and more security required for large scale music festivals in the country moving forward.

The more stringent oversight is part of the government’s efforts to tamp down drug abuse at such events.

This follows the recent Future Music Festival Asia event at the Bukit Jalil Sports Centre, where six people died of apparent drug overdoses on the event’s third day. The FMFA 2014 event was cut short, and organizers were forced to issue refunds to thousands of disappointed revellers.

The New Straits Times reports Wan Junaidi made the remarks in reply to a queestion from Senator Datuk Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman, who had asked how the government plans to tackle the issue of dug abuse at large-scale festivals.
