Every year, Malaysia’s Muslim community eagerly anticipates the joyous occasion of its Islamic celebrations like Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
However, amidst the celebrations, one common challenge awaits those who travel back to their hometowns: the notorious Eid traffic.
The influx of vehicles creates a gridlock of epic proportions, making the journey just slightly longer. 27 hours long, to be specific.
One woman got seriously unlucky last week when she travelled to Kelantan for the Eid al-Adha celebration.
On TikTok, user @norhasikinhashim shared how it took her 27 hours to reach her husband’s hometown.
@norhasikinhashim Mcm mana laa orang kelantan tabah dalam mengadap semua ni . Alhamdullilah smpai rumah mertua setelah 27jam atas kereta#rayakelantan2023 #rayaaidiladha2023 #fyp ♬ original sound – IJAT
The woman said she started her journey two days before the celebration, on June 27, and only reached Kelantan at 2:00 am on June 29.
“How do people from Kelantan always brave all this? Alhamdulillah, I reached my in-laws’ home after spending 27 hours in the car,” she said.
At press time, the video has been viewed more than 1.6 million times with over eighty-one thousand likes.
Other users also shared their stories of being stuck in standstill traffic during the Islamic celebration.
Kelantan is known for having a large population of Muslim residents who travel back to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with their families. This influx of travelers, combined with limited road infrastructure, leads to congested highways and increased travel times.
