Islamic evangelist Da’i Syed has filed a police report against rape allegations that had been spreading on Twitter since Monday.
The religious personality, whose real name is Syed Shah Iqmal Syed Mohammad Shaiful Jamalullail, told police yesterday that he was “shocked” to find that he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman he said he did not know.
The 25-year-old, who has been promoting Islam since appearing on the Nusantara Preachers reality show four years ago, added that the accusations had ruined his reputation and that of his family, although his father has advised women to “be careful” around him and urged victims to come forward.
“Yesterday on Twitter, I was accused of raping someone’s friend,” the police report by Syed that was shared online said. “The tweet went viral and I am shocked.”
”This issue is clearly ruining my reputation as others have shared it around online. My name has been smeared by these accusations as it has ruined my reputation, together with my family’s,” he later added.
Yesterday, Syed’s father Seif Jamalullail took to social media to caution women about his son.
“All I can do now is advise people, especially women, to be careful around him,” the Facebook post said, urging victims to come forward and “please report it to the authorities and take legal action.”
“I promise I won’t stand by my son if these accusations are true,” he added.
Neither Seif nor the accuser responded to Coconuts KL’s request for comment at publication time.
Known only as @Kucingslayer on Twitter, the accuser claimed that her friend was one of three who were allegedly raped by Syed and had compiled screenshots of the women’s messages to her and posted them online.
The Twitter user also included messages from 12 others claiming that Syed had allegedly persuaded them to come to his house. None of the victims were identified.
“I felt so upset when I got to know that my friend was raped by a celebrity,” @Kuchingslayer said. “That person is Da’i Syed, and he has many more victims.”
Over 6,000 people have shared her tweet. In one of the alleged victims’ messages, it said: “I was a victim of Da’i Syed.”
“He trapped me in his home for a day, took my car keys away and didn’t let me go. He is a predator,” it added.
