Things have gone from bad to worse to now awkward for former Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Unsatisfied that 1MDB is not the only shady entity within the former PM’s sphere of influence, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is now investigating a questionable volume of copies at a rather high price of Najib’s own autobiography Najib Razak: Di Sebalik Nama (Najib Razak: Behind the Name) that were ordered from a publisher.
Witness statements are being taken concerned with why a project was initiated to buy not one, nor two, but 20,000 copies of the book, at RM400,000 (US$100,000) from a certain publisher.
Investigators are alleging that abuse of power by a board member of Permodalan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (a Bumiputera entrepeneur consultancy organization, to the best of our comprehension) resulted a particular company being selected to do the job.
Suspicions have been roused that the company used to publish the oeuvre (instant classic) is actually a government crony, and MACC officials want to look into the numbers behind the order.
If you’re looking to secure your very own copy, an individual on re-sale site mudah.my is offloading three copies for RM30. Judging by how much they paid those publishers, it’s a total bargain.
Editor’s Note: We’re still waiting to get our copy signed.
