Inspector-General of Police warns public against holding pro-Anwar rallies

Inspectior-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said the PDRM will take action against individuals or groups who plan to organise rallies protesting the imprisonment of Pakatan Rakyat leader Anwar Ibrahim.

“I want to remind those who try to hold gatherings or rally, we will not stay silent, we will take action against them,” he said today, as quoted by The Malaysian Insider

“We have laws in this country, I have told and reminded (them), if the law is not being observed, be prepared to face police action.”

Anwar and Pakatan supporters gathered en masse outside the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya last week as the Federal Court deliberated on Anwar’s appeal to have his conviction and prison sentence for sodomy against former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan overturned. Since his incarceration in Sungai Buloh Prison, supporters had also taken to holding nightly vigils outside the prison compound to demonstrate their solidarity with the former Deputy Prime Minister.

Groups supporting Anwar are now planning a mass “Kita Lawan” (“We Fight”) rally in Kuala Lumpur next month.
