By now, every one would have heard about flamboyant Malaysian businessman Jho Low’s legendary Hollywood parties, but he allegedly threw himself a birthday party in 2012 that was so lavish, guests reportedly called it ‘the party to end all parties’.
Several media reports in the US are claiming that the 34-year-old, who is currently front and the center of a Department of Justice forfeiture complaint, took his wild parties to a whole new level when he allegedly booked an empty five-acre lot at the end of the Las Vegas Strip and reportedly erected a giant tent and an indoor ferris wheel.
Among the 300 guests reportedly invited to the massive bash include some of Hollywood’s biggest stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Paris Hilton, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Olympic legend Michael Phelps.
“For one night only, they turned it into a carnival, complete with a giant Ferris wheel,” a party guest told US entertainment site The Hollywood Reporter.
The party guest — who, like all guests, was reportedly made to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement — told the website that pop star Britney Spears and Korean singer Psy were hired to perform at the party.
“Britney Spears was allegedly paid US$1 million (RM4 million) to sing ‘Happy Birthday’,” the guest was quoted as saying.
So, for the birthday boy to dump such a huge load of money on his 30th birthday celebration, surely he received some pretty amazing birthday presents, right?
Well, amazing was an understatement.
The same party guest told The Hollywood Reporter that Jho Low, who allegedly once showered actress Lindsay Lohan with 23 bottles of Cristal champagne on her 23rd birthday (a bottle can cost up to US$2,000 or more), received three luxury superbikes and a multi-million dollar Bugatti Veyron from his friends.
“That took people’s breath away — that must have been a US$5 million (RM20 million) bill right there,” the guest was quoted as saying.
Jho Low’s over-the-top splurges came to light when the US’ Department of Justice last month filed a civil lawsuit seeking to seize assets worth more than US$1 billion (RM4 billion) claimed to have been embezzled from troubled Malaysian hedge fund 1MDB.
Low – together with Riza Aziz, the step-son of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak – was named in the papers.
