It has been over a decade since the original American book retailer, Borders, closed its doors.

Unfortunately, Borders Malaysia is also bidding farewell to its operations in Malaysia on August 31.

The management of Berjaya Books Sdn Bhd, the operator of Borders Malaysia, expressed their deepest appreciation to the customers who have steadfastly supported the bookstore over the years.

“We are truly grateful for the trust and loyalty you have shown us and we would not have been able to come this far without you.

“Although our journey is coming to an end, our commitment to our customers remains unchanged. We will ensure that you receive the best customer service until the very end,” a notice at the Bangsar Village 2 Borders outlet said, according to a report by FMT

The Borders Malaysia website has also closed its online store since May 31.

Borders Group Inc filed for bankruptcy in February 2011 and subsequently liquidated all of its stores. By September of that same year, all outlets in the United States had ceased their operations.

Over the years, Borders Malaysia also lost out to its competitors in terms of marketing and publicity. Some patrons also said that its selection and stock was not as expansive as other competitor bookstores.

Still, thanks for the memories Borders!
