An Indonesian woman landed herself in hot water after she joked about having bombs in her luggage bag at the Penang International Airport recently.
The 33-year-old factory worker from Ipoh was meant to fly back to Medan, Indonesia, with two pals at 5:30 p.m.
Police were informed of the incident at around 5:10pm, according to Southwest Police Chief Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal.
“The suspect, a foreign woman, was detained after she joked with staff checking her luggage that there was a bomb inside.
“Her joke was clearly heard by the staff manning the check-in counter as well as other passengers,” he said today.
Kamarul Rizal said the woman has been remanded for two days to facilitate investigations into the incident.
The case is being probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
