Indonesian authorities say three bodies have been recovered

Six bodies have reportedly been spotted floating in the waters of the Java Sea where the wreckage of AirAsia flight  QZ 8501 was discovered.

Associated Press reports that three of them have been recovered about 10 kilometres from the aircraft’s last communication with air traffic control.

The bodies were reportedly bloated but intact. National Search and Rescue Director SB Supriyadi  was quoted as saying that they had no life jackets on.

The victims were found shortly after Indonesian authorities confirmed that the red and white debris spotted by search and rescue teams was in fact from the ill-fated Singapore-bound jet.

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes tweeted: “My heart is filled with sadness for all the families involved in QZ 8501. On behalf of AirAsia my condolences to all. Words cannot express how sorry I am.”

In a separate tweet, Fernandes said he was rushing to Surabaya and ‘whatever we can do at AirAsia, we will be doing’.
