The Ikea-eagle has landed…in Cheras — a brand new store will be opening there by the end of the year.
Bringing with it the bright prospect of easing the weekend crowd in its first — and currently only — outlet in Mutiara Damansara, Ikea’s Cheras base will be located in Jalan Cochrane, the company said in a statement on its website.
The first store opened in 1996 within the 1Utama Shopping Mall and eventually grew to have its own standalone store in 2003, the biggest Ikea store in Asia at the time.
“Continuing our journey here, the upcoming store in Cheras will be our biggest yet in Malaysia with an overall store size that is 20 percent larger than Ikea Damansara. The development is currently ongoing as we progress to focus on the interior fittings and operational setup of the store,” Ikea Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand retail director Mike King said.
