Ikea Malaysia recalls children’s swing, offers full refund

Ikea Malaysia has ordered a recall on all its ‘Gunggung’ children’s swings after reports that fittings on the swing – which did not match Ikea’s quality requirements – pose a risk of serious injury.

Anyone who has bought the product – sold at Ikea Malaysia since April 1- should return it to the Ikea store where they will be given a full refund, The Malaysian Insider reports.

If you’ve lost your receipt, do not worry. Proof of purchase isn’t required to receive the refund.

“We develop products intended to stimulate children’s creativity and natural need for physical play,” business area manager for children’s products at Ikea Cindy Andersen was quoted as saying.

“Our mindset at Ikea is that we only sell products that we would give to our own children. However, sometimes even though we have tested according to applicable standards and legislation, we make mistakes. We are therefore recalling the Gunggung swing to avoid any more incidents.”

“We have zero tolerance towards any safety or health risks in children’s products and always take prompt action when we learn of a possible safety issue,” she added, apologising for the inconvenience caused.
