Swedish furniture giant IKEA shut its Cheras store today for disinfection after an undisclosed number of security guards were found to be infected with the coronavirus.
The company did not say when they had tested positive for COVID-19, but said that they last worked at the store on Saturday. The 42,000 sqm outlet will be disinfected today while the company identifies close contacts of the guards.
“Our co-workers who were in close contact have already been placed on home quarantine and undergoing COVID-19 swab tests,” its statement said.
Cheras is one of two outlets serving shoppers in Kuala Lumpur. The other one in Damansara closed for disinfection on Jan. 2 after several employees contracted the virus.
Malaysia has reported 183,801 COVID-19 infections since the outbreak began. New infections reached a record high on Saturday with 4,275 cases. The death toll stands at 667.
