The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) debating team took home the champion trophy for the second year running, when they came out top at the AustralAsian Intervarsity Debating Championship (English as Second Language (ESL) category) in New Zealand.

The tourney, held from June 28 to July 10 in Otago University, saw 86 teams from Asia, Australia and New Zealand going up against each other.

The IIUM team, comprising 21-year old law students Ameera Natasha Moore and Hazim Ahmadi, and 23-year old economics major Mubarrat Wassey, defeated another Malaysian team, from Universiti Malaya, at the ESL grand finals to bag the gold, reports The Star Online.
