Malaysian police have reportedly identified two victims of convicted British paedophile, Richard Huckle.
According to The Star Online, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed this, saying that they were informed in 2014.
“Yes we were informed in 2014 but they didn’t give us more details. We were only told that he was a suspected paedophile and nothing more,” the portal quoted Khalid as saying at an event today.
Khalid was further quoted as saying that while local police tried to get information on Huckle, their British counterparts did not give other information as “European countries by law cannot cooperate with nations that enforce capital punishment, so there lies the problem.”
Malaysian police, however, would continue to work alongside British police to identify the victims, Khalid added.
Berita Harian meanwhile, reports that Malaysian police plan to meet Huckle in prison to get his statement. The daily quoted Khalid as saying that police make an application to meet with Huckle as soon as possible.
“We are suggesting this in order to get more details on the children in Malaysia who because victims of abuse,” he reportedly said.
