IGP: probing leaked Muhyiddin video on PM Najib’s RM2.6 bil money transfer “beyond my powers”

An investigation into the leaked video of former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin relating how PM Najib Razak admitted to receiving a transfer of USD700 million (RM2.6 billion) is not under the Inspector-General of Police’s direct authority to initiate, IGP Khalid Abu Bakar said today.

Responding to the viral spread of the video which leaked just a day after Muhyiddin was sacked from the Cabinet, Khalid said he had no sole authority to order a probe into the matter, as any case connected to sovereign development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) was under the purview of the Federal Government’s Special Task Force assigned to investigate the company and allegations it committed criminal wrongdoing.

“Anything to do with 1MDB you have to ask the task force. It is beyond my powers,” the nation’s top cop said, as quoted by The Malay Mail Online‘s Syed Jamal Zahiid.

The Special Task Force is comprised of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and Bank Negara.
