IGP denies Dr M’s claims that his personal bodyguard service is being withdrawn

The plot thickens with regards to the future of former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s personal bodyguard service.

Last week, the nonagenarian posted on his robust Facebook page that the protection service that had previously been provided by the police Special Action Unit (UTK) was being withdrawn.

This came hot off the heels of previous services offered the elder politician by the state also being terminated. Last year, Dr Mahathir lost his motorcade privileges, followed by the decision by Putrajaya to not renew contracts for both his dedicated chef, and personal assistant.

However, speaking to Utusan Malaysia, inspector general of police (IGP) Mohamad Fuzi Harun denied Dr. M’s claims, saying that he still had a security team given to him of UTK officers.

He added that “only some of the ordinary [police] members have been called back for other assignments. This is a normal procedure.”

Well, we’ll keep our eyes peeled on Dr. M’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for a rebuttal, slash clarification, slash retraction.
