So … it all started this morning, when Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed likened outspoken Malay-rights activist and Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali to disturbingly orange-skinned and pretty racist The Apprentice star and US presidential candidate Donald Trump.
We guess we could see the resemblance, if we squint. Hard to say.
Bottom line, though, Ibrahim Ali did not take that as an insult, and stepped up to fully own the comparison.
“Donald Trump is the candidate that the Republican party is putting up as their president, and he is like America’s Ibrahim Ali,” The Malay Mail Online reports Nur Jazlan saying this morning, at the launch of a youth programme by the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) in KL.
“It is surprising that they would prefer someone who is racist and stupid as their presidential candidate,” Nur Jazlan said.
Ouch. Or, it would have been an “ouch” moment if Nur Jazlan was referring to anyone in Malaysian politics other than Ibrahim Ali. (We’re pretty sure Donald Trump himself doesn’t care what Nur Jazlan Mohamed says.)
In response to th jibe, Ibrahim told mStar that he heartily welcomes the comparison, and said it was an acknowledgment of his commitment to his ideals.
“It’s an unexpected nod to me, and I accept it wholeheartedly,” he said.
“This also means I have what it takes to be a US presidential nominee.”
Ibrahim added that just like Trump, he is known as a straight shooter who tells it like it is, unlike hypocrites who populate Malaysian politics.
“I’d like to thank Nur Jazlan, who clearly seems to be a smart person, for making that comparison,” Ibrahim said.
Yup. Sounds like TrumpMY to us.
