Housewife sentenced to six months jail for insulting the Prophet, comes to court dressed as latter-day Ginger Spice

Forty-six-year-old Tham Yut Mooi, a housewife from Ipoh, has been sentenced to six months in jail, and slapped with an RM15,000 (US$3,700) fine after being found guilty of insulting Prophet Muhammad.

Magistrate Siti Hanum Mohmad Sah meted out the sentence to Tham today, who appeared in court dressed in a Union Jack tunic, reminiscent of a late-90s Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice.

The suspect was tried on three counts, and was given two months jail, and RM5,000, per charge.

The incident that led to arrest occurred outside of the Abu Ubaidah Mosque in Ipoh, on May 4, 2016, at 5:30pm.

Three men heard the remarks and filed police reports against the suspect.

While the court has granted her an appeal on the sentence, she has been forced to surrender her passport.
