Hot weather puts mini fans back in fashion

While you may have noticed that temperatures have eased in the Klang Valley lately (darkened days and thunder storms, anyone), people in Georgetown, Penang are still in need of some help to keep things cool.

They’ve turned to mini fans — cheap, non-battery operated ones that have no possibility of exploding in your face. (READ: Charging mobile phone explodes in man’s face)

According to a report by The Star Online‘s Chong Kah Yuan, these hand cranked China-made old school tough guys sell are selling like hot cakes for RM6.90 each.

“Of late, people have been asking for the manual handheld ones due to the reports about the battery-powered ones exploding. I’ve not personally received any complaints about such incidents,” a shop assistant who declined to be named was quoted as saying.

He added, citing an incident involving a primary school student in Seberang Prai, that such an explosion could have been a result of the mini fan overheating or a malfunctioned battery.
