Dengue is expected to hit a record high this year and the warning signs have been put up.
But here’s what you can do to watch out for possible Aedes mosquito breeding grounds: check on your homes as well any vacant units in your area.
These have been marked as the biggest causes for the influx in dengue-carrying mosquitoes, says Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
He told Bernama that 77 per cent of the 56,533 dengue cases recorded were found to have originated from these two ‘breeding grounds’.
“In our reviews and examinations, 55 per cent is from homes, while 22 per cent is from vacant lots,” he said adding that residents should be mindful about discarding polystyrene packs and bottles properly before they before homes to larvae.
