Holiday resort’s storeroom catches fire

A storeroom at a popular holiday resort in Alor Gajah went up in flames on Thursday morning.

A Malacca Fire and Rescue Department spokesman told The New Straits Times that the storeroom, located on the second floor of the resort, was used to store old mattresses and wooden pallets.

He said the department received a distress call at 10.24am and two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) vehicle reportedly rushed to the scene.

“Fourteen firemen led by operation commander Selomon Ismail managed to control the fire at 10.51am,” the spokesman said in a statement as cited by the daily.

He added that 60 per cent of the room was burn and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
