Local police recently confiscated a parcel addressed to two politicians which contained a tube of toothpaste that allegedly had cannabis extract.

Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof of the Sepang district police said in a statement that an officer working in a ministry’s inquiry office had filed a police report about the parcel after receiving a call from a delivery service.

The parcel named Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as the recipients.

“Based on the information received it was suspected that the parcel contained prohibited items, as last week a government office received a parcel containing ‘cannabis leaf’ too,” he said.

“The investigation found that the confiscated items had no connection with the addressees,” he added.

According to Wan Kamarul, two police officers and the complainant went to a delivery center in Sepang on Mar. 10 at around 6:30pm, where the parcel was seized.

The police discovered that the item was purchased through an online shopping platform with an address in Indonesia.

The Putrajaya police narcotics division is investigating the case under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Section 6 prohibits the possession of raw opium, coca leaves, poppy straw, and cannabis.
