It’s got a dead simple mission statement: “Take a chill pill. Leisure page for fun people”, but a new local Instagram account might just be the cause for a whole lot of Malaysian netizens to have extremely complicated feelings.
Rich Kids of Malaysia is an IG account detailing the lives and antics of the country’s young and spoiled, from trips to Prague, to a quick shopping trip to get re-upped on the new LV collection, to taking a spin in the Hummvee … right before jumping into the Learjet.
As the name suggests, most of the people sending in their phonecam snaps (yes, the account claims all of the photos have been submitted voluntarily) are young Malaysians with more disposable cash than they (or, probably, their parents) know what to do with.
At a time when the ringgit is plummeting and people are pinching their pennies harder than they’ve ever had before, this might be the vicarious-living outlet for locals aiming for the good life … or more likely, the target of a lot of internet hate.
Does that black card get you 24-hour social media comment management? Because these rich kids might just need it, soon.
(Oh. If you’re a rich kid in Malaysia, and want the interwebz to know it, you can submit your hedonist selfies to richkids.malaysia@gmail.com. Showoff.)
