A Grab delivery rider in Malaysia is being praised for his bravery after his decisive action helped capture a pair of snatch thieves.

Surveillance camera footage of the crime taken along a street in Kuala Lumpur at about 8:30pm on Monday shows the delivery rider using his bike to ram the thieves, who almost got away with stealing a victim’s belongings.

The footage shows two males on a motorcycle following a woman in yellow as she crosses the sidewalk as they wait for the right moment to steal her purse.

After snatching her bag offscreen, the woman chases one of the men down on foot and attempts to reclaim her stuff when all three of them reappear in the footage. The man riding the motorcycle turns around and goes back for his partner in an effort to flee as quickly as possible.

A passing car stops by the side of the road after seeing the incident, but nobody gets out.

Suddenly, the Grab driver appears on his motorcycle and, without thinking twice, rams into the pair on their bike in an attempt to stop them.

As soon as the delivery rider’s bike falls over, he jumps off to grab hold of the thieves and slow them down.

More bystanders step in at that point as they work together to stop the attempted heist.

While another rider went against traffic to disperse the fight, one driver sprints over from the opposite side of the road.

Eventually, around six bystanders assisted the woman after she had taken her possessions back.

By the time the security camera footage ends, the two snatchers were surrounded and prevented from fleeing.

The pair gave up upon realising they were outnumbered. Later pictures show the two snatchers being turned over to the police.

Online comments were overwhelmingly positive for the Grab delivery rider, with some suggesting that he should receive compensation for any damage his motorcycle received as a result of using it to stop the thieves.

The rider was also lauded by Grab Malaysia on Twitter, with the company requesting his information so it could reward him.

The posting said: “That rider is great and the best. If anyone knows the licence plate details of this rider, please DM us.”
