Prepare your wallets, ladies and gentlemen; we may see yet another toll rates hike next year. Sigh.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof told The New Straits Times that next year, toll concessionaires have the right to increase the toll rates at four major highways.
The increase is reportedly based on the current agreement between the government and the 12 toll concessionaires in Malaysia, Fadillah told the daily.
“If the toll rates of the four highways are not increased, the government is expected to pay the concessionaires RM59.77 million in compensation,” Fadillah was quoted as saying.
The four major highways in question were the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas), the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), the Johor Baru Eastern Dispersal Link Expressway (EDL) and the Senai–Desaru Expressway (SDE).
The last major toll hike happened in October last year, which affected 18 highways and saw an increase of between RM0.20 and RM2.30.
