Have you ever wanted to assist women who have been caught in situations of domestic violence? In Malaysia, the Women’s Aid Organisation is among the go-to bodies for those who wish to help women in crisis.
So if you’ve been curious about volunteering for a cause like this, now would be a good time to check it out; the WAO is looking for para-counsellors to answer its helpline.

Para-counsellors for the WAO Helpline will be trained on:
1. Empathetic listening skills
2. Risk and needs assessment
3. Knowledge on Violence Against Women (VAW)
Volunteers will undergo 30 hours of training by WAO professional staff who have years of on the ground experience.
Six training sessions will be held on alternate Saturdays, beginning 21 March 2015:
1. Two full-Saturdays (6 hours) on 21/3 and 4/4
2. Four half-Saturdays (3 hours – you may choose the AM or PM slot) on 18/4, 2/5, 16/5 and 30/5
Para-Counselors must commit to a 3-hour slot per week as well as on-going training sessions and refresher courses. A pre-training briefing will be held on 7 March.
Those interested can apply by February 28 — send your application [http://bit.ly/1C2s1JB] to womensaidorg@gmail.com. Or check out their Facebook page for more details.
