Heatwave: Two-day closure for schools in Kuala Krai, Jerantut

All schools in two districts have been ordered to close for two days as the hot weather surged in Pahang and Kelantan.

A total of 119 schools in Kuala Krai and Jerantut will stay closed today and tomorrow as temperatures in both areas breached 38 degrees Celcius, the New Straits Times reports.

Schools have been ordered to close in the past month due to extreme hot weather contributed by the El Nino phenomenon. Weather experts have stated that things should ease up between May and June.

Thousands of pupils have been affected by closures in Kedah, Perlis and Pahang and this time, the Education Ministry says more than 41,665 students will be affected.

“We are also asking the schools not to organise any outdoor activities in this period,” Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid was quoted as saying.
