Heatwave: schools in parts of Kelantan and Pahang to close tomorrow

The Education Ministry announced today that schools in the districts of Kuala Krai, Kelantan and Jerantut, Pahang will be closed for two days beginning tomorrow as a result of the heatwave currently making its rounds across the country.

Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid told Berita Harian Online that his ministry ordered the school closures after temperatures in both areas reached 38 degrees Celsius.

“The conditions in those districts are very hot, to the point where temperatures hit 38 degrees Celsius,” he said.

“The ministry will continue to monitor the weather in other areas, and directives to halt outdoor activities in schools are to remain in place.”

119 schools, primary and secondary, will be affected by tomorrow’s closures, with 54 of them located in Kuala Krai and another 65 in Jerantut.

The closures will leave a total of 41,665 students with a couple of days off from school.
