A harmless fight over who gets the shotgun seat or the front seat of a car between two siblings turned deadly after one of them threw a knife at the other, stabbing the victim to death.
Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin in a statement said the police received a call regarding the incident at 2:15 pm on Oct. 19. The incident was said to have taken place at Kampung Ulu Pulai, Ulu Choh in Johor.
According to him, the victim’s mother claimed that the 16-year-old victim had a fight with his 18-year-old sister after fighting over a seat in the car on the way home from school.
Rahmat said the victim’s sister admitted to throwing a knife at the victim after being teased when entering the house.
The sister, the eldest among five siblings, is reportedly a Form Six student at the Maahad Pontian religious secondary school, the same school attended by the victim.
After police were notified of the incident, she was arrested and taken into police custody where she confessed to the murder.
She will be remanded for six days, from Oct. 20 until Oct. 25 to allow further investigation to be carried out in accordance with Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Yesterday, the suspect appeared in court alone, with no sign of her relatives. During her court appearance, she allegedly looked angry.
In a follow-up article, Harian Metro reported that Rahmat said the victim’s cause of death was confirmed to be due to heavy bleeding in the main blood vessel.
He said the cause of death was based on a result of the autopsy carried out on the body at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) yesterday.
According to him, the victim’s sister threw a vegetable knife, and the tip struck an artery on the right side of the victim’s neck, which caused the bleeding.
Rahmat said that the victim died at the scene immediately after the incident. The police have confiscated the knife since. He added that there were no other injuries found on the victim.
