Malaysian football hasn’t been what it used to be, but a win is a win and it’s a reason to celebrate.
The Malaysian football team defeated Timor Leste 3-0 in the return leg of the Asian Cup Qualifying playoff for a 6-0 aggregate victory.
Playing in front of 1,000 fans at Larkin Stadium on Monday night, Khair Jones opened the scoring with his left foot in his first start for Malaysia in the 16th minute.
In the 58th minute, Ahmad Hazwan Bakri extended Malaysia’s lead with a header, and S. Chanturu’s volley sealed the deal 10 minutes later.
With the win, our boys will now play in next year’s Asian Cup Qualifying round. Malaysia did not qualify for the previous two tournaments held in 2011 and 2015.
