Gun, live bullets found in footballer Safee Sali’s vehicle

A revolver and live bullets were discovered in a vehicle belonging to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) striker Safee Sali on Sunday.

Bernama reports that Safee, 32, denied being the owner of the weapon.

“Only the vehicle is mine. I was informed about the case yesterday afternoon and I was truly shocked. Then, the police called me to come to the police headquarters to give my statement,” Safee was quoted as saying.

He added that the four-wheel drive (4WD) had been sent to a car accessory shop in Johor Bahru before he left for the FA Cup final in Shah Alam on Saturday.

Police discovered the Smith & Wesson revolver and 30 bullets in a bag, placed on the back seat of the Ford Ranger, during a road block northbound at the Kempas exit of the PLUS Expressway.

The owner of the car accessory shop was driving the vehicle at the time of the inspection. The 34-year-old suspect has been detained.

According to The Star Online, the suspect — who has prior records — claimed that he found the gun during a fishing trip in Pasir Gudang last month.
