After calling trading to a halt earlier this week on the Bursa Malaysia (stock exchange), Nestlé Malaysia announced that they will be investing and expanding their Chembong, Negeri Sembilan factory to become the world’s largest Milo manufacturing center.
Can I get a Milo eiss, from the choir?!
In statement shared with media outlets earlier today, company CEO Alois Hofbauer explained that manufacturing operations in Petaling Jaya (PJ) will be consolidated with the Chembong plant, and production at that location is set to grow as the source point of domestic and international Milo supply. Currently, the plant exports to over 20 countries.
Hofbauer hopes that with the injection of RM100 million (US$25 million) in investment, production facilities will be upgraded, and factory ergonomics improved.
Milo’s former PJ factory will be taken over by dairy company Lactalis, who will also be manufacturing something called “Chilled Dairy,” which Nestlé has said is pretty popular. [Ed. Note: I don’t know her]
Nestlé has stated that they remain positive regarding the Malaysian market:
“We see great potential that these investments will allow us to strengthen our focus on strategic core businesses that can deliver good long-term growth and are aligned with evolving consumer needs.
Great. Good to hear!
In other news, we’re exporting less, and importing more, so growth expectations have been cut. Let’s hope Milo 2.0 can help turn this around.
In news that we already know, Milo is full of sugar, and we’re still the most obese nation in the region.
