The next time your parents tell you that nothing good comes out of playing video games, show them this article.
Team Fnatic, a professional gaming team made up of four Malaysians and a Filipino, recently took part in the ‘Dota 2 The International’ tournament in Seattle.
They did pretty well, securing a Top Four finish by beating South Korean team MVP Phoenix in Round 4. However, they lost to South America’s Digital Chaos in the semi-finals.
As a result, Team Fnatic finished in fourth place and is entitled to seven per cent of the RM83,315,307 prize pool, which happens to be the biggest prize pool in the history of eSports.
In case you’re still calculating how much Team Fnatic actually won, here’s the answer:
That’s RM5.6 million for a fourth place finish! We don’t think we could even win that much money in the lottery!
“We finish #TI6 in 4th place. It’s been a great event for us with a lot of great moments. Proud to represent SEA region and hopefully we brought a lot of fun to you guys,” Team Fnatic said in a Facebook posting.
Oh, if you were wondering, the winner of the ‘Dota 2 The International’ tournament, China’s Wings Gaming, went home with a cool RM36.7 million prize money.
Go play video games, you guys!
