Malaysia’s Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) has busted a home-grown counterfeit luxury fashion and sports brands bag factory for the first time. Previously, fake goods were intercepted coming from manufacturing facilities abroad.

Faux handbags, bags, and backpacks from brands including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Nike, Adidas and Fila were being produced in a Subang Jaya factory staffed by foreign workers.

Officials from KPDNHEP were able to work in tandem with Immigration Department authorities, and carried out an operation at the factory this past Saturday afternoon, at 3pm. Among the goods seized were 126 counterfeit handbags, 135 pieces of fake branded baggage and no less than 664 faux Louis Vuitton backpacks. Also hauled in was the cloth, and pieces used to make each item.

Over 1,500 pieces of fake sports monogrammed bags were also taken in, with the entire seizure being valued at RM60,000 (US$15,000). Sixteen Bangladeshi tailors were also taken in for questioning while police investigate.
