Guan Eng arrested for corruption

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Malaysiakini, reported that he is expected to face two corruption charges — relating to abuse of power over the re-zoning of land from agriculture to commercial and the controversial acquisition of a bungalow below market value — at the George Town Sessions Court tomorrow.

It was reported that businesswoman Phang Li Khoon who sold the bungalow at Jalan Pinhorn to Guan Eng for RM2.8 million, was also arrested.

The news portal said Lim’s supporters are expected to hold a candlelight vigil outside the MACC building along Sultan Ahmad Shah tonight.

Guan Eng’s father, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang tweeted details soon after his son’s arrest.

State exco Chow Kon Yeow was quoted as saying that DAP members would meet after Lim is charged.

“We believe that he can be bailed out,” he reportedly said.

Police had earlier reportedly built a heavy presence outside the entrances of the government administrative offices in Komtar this afternoon, as rumours of Lim’s arrest began to spread.
